Enchanted

This combination of Romantic Comedy and Disney Animated fused together quite well. I thought that there was going to be more animation than simply the first ten to fifteen minutes of the film.

I loved the comedy of the animated characters acting in fairy tale ways while in New York City. Amy Adams' princess character, Giselle, was absolutely ridiculous for the entire movie. Sometimes this was annoying but most of the time it was charming. Although I enjoyed Patrick Dempsey (Maine native) in this film it was a bit disappointing if you were to compare it to his performance as Dr. McDreamy.

What I think made Enchanted a good movie instead of a ho-hum movie was the music. The songs were great and the score was fantastic. Who was the man behind the curtain? Alan Menken, music genius who composed Disney classics like Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid.

Bee Movie

Just finished watching this movie and I have to say Seinfeld was just not up to his old sitcom standards. It was a pleasant movie but had nothing special. It was extremely poor given the amount of big name voices they grabbed for this picture. First of all this was Seinfeld's big comeback party. You have Renee Zellweger playing his romantic lead. Then you have quality voice actors that have been in major successful animated pictures with Patrick Warburton (Emperor's New Groove, Hoodwinked, Open Season) and John Goodman (Cars, Emperor's New Groove, Monster's Inc.). Add to the mix two of the most recognizable voices with Chris Rock (Madagascar) and Rip Torn (Hercules). All of that being said I was certainly not blown away. I will say it again as I've said before, Dreamworks can't write the kind of story that Disney/Pixar does. At no point did they have the magic in this one. They tried to go with the Shrek-like comedy but it didn't stick with me like Shrek did when it first came out. Instead of making fun of fairy tales they simply made fun of people in general. The major flaw of this story about bees is that it is not in the classic Pixar style. When Berry Benson first talks to a human they completely lost me. In Toy Story, Monster's Inc., Finding Nemo and A Bug's Life all of the action could actually be happening and we would have no idea, because when humans come around they act like normal toys, fish and bugs, but behind the scenes there is so much going on. That's is what makes it so intriguing and magical. Bees engaging with humans just doesn't do it for me.

Superbad

Before people get mad, let me start out by saying that "Superbad" was a good movie. That being said, obviously I did not think it was as good as everyone I know was saying it was. Most of my friends and acquaintances have absolutely loved "40 Year Old Virgin" and "Knocked Up" while I enjoyed them but was not that impressed by them. So going in I had low expectations for my own enjoyment. I thought the crudeness and vulgarity was toned down compared to the other two recent Apatow movies which was a positive for me. I find that the vulgar aspects of 'Virgin' and 'Knocked' took away from the comedy of them both. The fact that the characters are in high school probably had a lot to do with this. I found it interesting that the two girls they casted for the romantic leads were not surprisingly hot. Seeing as the two guys were nerds and ugly this made it more believable than those movies that have extremely hot girls getting with losers.

Favorite characters

1. Officer Michaels- Seth Rogan
This performance was right up there with his part in 'You, Me and Dupree' if not better. I really liked him here where as I disliked his character in 'Virgin' and could've taken him or leaved him in 'Knocked'

2. Officer Slater- Bill Hader
Very close 1, 2 on this one. I've enjoyed Hader on SNL at some points but I haven't seen him this funny very often (except for maybe in Laser Cats). He should think about doing more movies.

3. Seth- Jonah Hill
Being in both 'Virgin' and 'Knocked' I was glad to see him getting a starring role. I thought he was very good and can't wait to see what he does next.

4. Evan- Michael Cera
Didn't enjoy this kid very much. Yeah he was real awkward but I wanted him to shut it most of the time.

5. Fogell (McLovin)- Christopher Mintz-Plasse
Couldn't stand this kid. Every second he was in I wanted to slap him in the face. I know you need a real loser to play this part but I think they could've found something more manageable.

Writers' Strike

So let me start out by saying how scared I am about next spring. No tv for a long time could be a terrible time. The Writers' Guild of America went on strike on November 1st. They are mostly looking to get some or more of a share of dvd sales revenue and revenue gained by releasing episodes on the internet. This is fair and I think the execs should shell it out. What we will be most likely faced with this spring is a lot of game shows, reality shows, and talk shows during prime time slots. This could be an awful year.

I propose two ideas to settle this whole thing. This first one was brought up by T-time yesterday after he finished watching an episode of 'Two and Half Men.' We take all of the ridiculous amounts of money that Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer make for that awful show that somehow gets good ratings and we split it up to the writers. That should make the writers happy, and any normal television watcher happy knowing that those two fools aren't getting paid to make a horrible show. The second idea is one that I came up with. Just because the writers are on strike doesn't mean that networks need to stop making episodes. Have the actors write the scripts for the rest of the seasons. Brilliant. Here are a few things I can see happening. Adrian Pasdar finishes the scripts for 'Heroes.' In a few weeks we see Nathan Petrelli all of the sudden getting many powers much more powerful than anything Peter or Sylar have and he kills off Sylar, Adam Monroe, and the Nightmare Man in one episode. Also, Eric Dane takes over the writing for 'Grey's Anatomy.' On the season finale, Mark Sloan saves 17 lives hooks up with Izzie and then Meredith falls in love with him and they get married. In all seriousness though, I think it would be quite entertaining to watch these shows knowing that the actors were doing the writing.

T-Time

T-time is my older brother and I'm sure many of my readers know or have heard of him. Of his many talents, my favorite is his ability to make ridiculous predictions about Heroes. Last year he predicted that Mr. Bennett's first name was Noah around four eps into the season. When Bennett said "Call me Noah" in the season finale I almost flipped my lid. Knowing how incredible that was I shouldn't have been so surprised when it happened again last night. A couple weeks ago T-time told me that this mysterious Adam Monroe character was going to be Takezo Kensai. He said that once the eclipse hit, it wasn't only that Kensai couldn't be wounded or killed, but he also didn't age. It all goes back to his original biblical theory where Noah was gathering heroes like on Noah's ark. In this case Adam was the first hero, just as Adam was the first man. All in all, unbelievable prediction per the usual for T-time.

Boston Sports

So the Juice Box guy started his own blog recently, and his first major post was about how sad he was that all of his favorite Boston sports teams were doing so well. While I can understand what he is getting at, when your teams are bad you get to complain all the time. People in general love to complain so I can see how this was enjoyable. But the fact that this may be how a majority of New Englanders may be feeling is just sad.

Growing up in Connecticut, Mass, and Maine having a strong hate for the Celtics, Red Sox and Patriots doesn't always go over so well. My pops, Big Tom, has a New York affiliation so it was hard to like these Boston based teams. I enjoyed my early childhood of the celtics being God awful, mediocre Patriots and Red Sox always losing out to the Yanks. Now when the Pats started to get championships, no doubt when Belichek started his unbelievable cheating style, my hate grew much larger. This is when I started to hate everyone on the teams of the Pats, Sox and Celts. When the Sox finally beat the Yanks and ended up World Series champs I knew it was all over. Things would never be the same. This is the point when I would start to love players that had left the Boston teams (Antoine Walker, Johnny Damon, Deion Branch). Now that the Celtics seem to be destined to be great, for a couple of years at least, I am sad that I won't be able to show the same hatred for them as I always have. When your favorite player in the league (KG) and another dude that you love (Ray Ray) end up on a team, it is hard to keep that same hatred.

All in all, I am still very sad that the Sox won the world series, more than wanting my favorite football team to win the super bowl, i want the Pats to lose, but I won't be angry at all if KG and Ray get their championship they both deserve in this awful city of Boston.
