If the rumors of Simon leaving Idol after this season are true, it will be a very sad day. Listening to the judges is already unbearable, but at least I know there is some enjoyment when Mr. Cowell comments. Can you imagine listening to only Randy, Kara and Paula next year? Wow that would be rough.

Last night was songs from the Rat Pack Era. Which means any song that Old Blue Eyes, Sammy D or Deano ever recorded.

Five--
Allison Iraheta- (Someone to Watch Over Me/Frank Sinatra) This girl needs to work on her diction, because I can't understand a single word she sings. That being said, she deserves to be in the top five, but not any further. This was good, but not great at all. All of the critics love her and I don't know why. Thankfully America doesn't seem to and hopefully she heads home tonight.

Four--
Kris Allen- (The Way You Look Tonight/Frank Sinatra) Again this was good, but nothing special. The beginning was great but I thought it got away from him a little through the second half. He tried to do too much with it and didn't pull it off. Also the falsetto in the middle didn't work for me at all, it was not nearly powerful enough. This was just so much worse than the original that it's hard to say it was a great performance.

Three--
Danny Gokey- (Come Rain or Come Shine/Frank Sinatra) Gokes started a little too slow again. The last third of this was so good that I feel bad not putting him second. His bluesy tone knocked the end of this song out of the park.

Two--
Matt Giraud- (My Funny Valentine/Frank Sinatra) Unlike Danny, Matt's performance held my attention from the first note to the last. I just listened to Sammy's version of this a couple of days ago and Matt's was wayy better. He kept his runs to a minimum in this one and when he brought them out they added a lot to the song. Also his falsetto was on point.

One--
Adam Lambert- (Feeling Good/Sammy Davis Jr.) Every night he does what he does with the utmost professionalism and makes every song his own. I will admit this wasn't one of my favorites of Ms. Lambert's, but it was still miles better than anyone else in the competition. Also his opening to the song was unbelievable.

We Could Be Heroes

Last night NBC threw two hours of season finale action at us. While this post is going to be mostly about the Heroes Volume Four finale, I need to mention how great Chuck was last night. It was a fantastic ending to an awesome season. If this is, in fact, the last we see of the CIA/Buy More crew, I will be sad but pleased with what they gave us.

Unlike Chuck, which has been getting better and better over the past two years, Heroes has been all over the place. Season One was one of, if not the best first season in my memory. After that the show started on a downslide, which might have been caused by the writers’ strike during the second season. Volume Three started this fall and it was more of the same mediocrity. Now for me, volume four was looking like a step in the right direction, but last night’s finale threw me through another loop.

I have always been the guy who says that, in a serialized action show like this, you need to kill people off at times to keep the viewer’s attention. This is something Heroes wasn’t willing to do. Sure they got rid more minor characters like D.L., Isaac and Linderman, but when they kill off Nikki only to bring her back as Tracy, or they kill Nathan at the end of season two only to have him be healed by Claire’s blood it just makes me angry.

So when spoilers for this volume’s finale said that a major character would die, I didn’t think they were going to cop out like they did. -SPOILER ALERT- So Peter and Nathan go in to attack Sylar (which they don’t let Claire or the audience see, bootleg) and surprise surprise, the killer with multiple lethal powers kills the dude that can fly around. After Nathan’s throat is slit by Sylar, and Peter has mimicked Sylar’s shape shifting power, Peter shifts into the form of the President and stabs Sylar with a tranquilizer. Now Peter, Claire, Noah, Angela and Parkman are left with a dead Nathan and a knocked out Sylar. As a political move, and so that Angela doesn’t lose her son, Parkman gives Sylar’s body all of Nathan’s memories and removes anything to do with Gabriel Gray/Sylar.

So there wasn’t really a death of a main character. Sure the real Nathan is dead, but he’s still around in Sylar. And I guess the essence of Sylar won’t be around, but the preview of volume five shows that the new Nathan starts to show Gabriel’s original power of knowing how things work. So we will probably end up with having a half Nathan, half Sylar dude wondering around in the near future. That's not really killing anyone off.

And to top things off, at the very end of the volume five preview we see Tracy again. After shattering herself into a million pieces a while ago she is now back and has some sort of water manipulation power like Alex Mack. Unless this is not Tracy, and is in fact the third triplet, it is more proof that they can’t kill anyone off.

Top Basketball Movies (14 & 13)

14. Love and Basketball (2000)
Starring: Omar Epps, Sanaa Lathan, Dennis Haysbert

Half chick flick, half basketball movie. What’s better than that? Well 13 movies I will name later, but Love and Basketball is a classic. Monica Wright was on my top females list earlier and Quincy McCall is much sweeter than the Eric Foreman I have to endure on Monday nights. Throw President David Palmer into the mix and it’s not half bad. Monica and Quincy grow up together as good friends and star bball players in high school. They finally get together and then go off to college at USC. They then inevitably break up, but then Monica comes back to play him in one-on-one for his love. The dude obviously wins, but they get back together anyway.

Least Favorite: Coach Davis

13. Semi-Pro (2008)
Starring: Will Ferrell, Woody Harrelson, Andre Benjamin

So there’s this guy Will Ferrell who has made a few comedy pictures in his day. Well one of them was Semi-Pro. Although it is not one of the elite Ferrell flicks, the basketball player in me laughed hysterically at most of the bball scenes. The very first basketball game is classic, with Jackie Moon taking over as the star with Coffee Black not out to the court yet. Jackie posts up, demands the ball, kicks it out and demands it again over and over again. He then continues to take eight steps on his way to a sky hook and then gets extremely mad at the ref when a travel is called. Not to worry when Coffee Black enters the game, he takes over, and after dribbling through the entire opposition multiple times, he swishes a three from the corner. While the entire team is hugging and celebrating the basket, you can see the visitors scoring a fast break layup at the other end. It just doesn’t get much better than that.

16. Eddie (1996)
Starring: Whoopi Goldberg, Frank Langella, Dennis Farina

Edwina 'Eddie' Franklin is a Knicks fan and after she gets called down to the court to participate in the half-time show, the crowd falls in love with her. When the coach is fired, the owner turns to Eddie to turn things around in New York. Now I'm not a big Whoopie fan, and I don't even enjoy her that much in this movie, but it is the surrounding cast that gets Eddie on the list. Langella, Farina and Richard Jenkins are all great, but it is the performances by NBA stars Rick Fox, Mark Jackson, John Sally and Malik Sealy (blow a kiss to the sky in remembrance) that put it over the top.

Least Favorite: Claudine

15. He Got Game (1998)
Starring: Denzel Washington, Ray Allen, Rosario Dawson

Two in a row with Rick Fox. Ray Allen plays Jesus Shuttlesworth, the best high school basketball player in the country. He Got Game tells the story of Jesus being recruited by every school in the country and the troubles he faces while trying to get off the streets. His dad gets out of jail temporarily so that he can convince Jesus to go to a certain school. Speaking of Mr. Shuttlesworth, how terrible was Denzel's jumper?

Top Basketball Movies (18 & 17)

18. Like Mike (2002)
Starring: Bow Wow, Morris Chestnut, Jonathan Lipnicki

Ok this movie was so bootleg that they couldn’t even use the Clippers as the other team in LA, they had to be the Knights. But it makes it on here for a few reasons. The amount superstars is great, with Kidd, Iverson and the like all having lines. But nothing beats when Dirk comes up to Like Mike and asks for an autograph for his niece or sister or somebody. Like Mike asks Dirk what her name is and he stalls and goes…“Uhh…Dirk.” Classic. Also this movie was the origin of my brother’s name. When I was in a big nickname giving mode, with gems like Case the Base and Big Tom, Tim got the moniker T-time after I had watched Like Mike do the same to his boy Tracy Reynolds.

17. Hoop Dreams (1994)
Starring: Arthur Agee, William Gates

The only documentary to make the list, Hoop Dreams tells the story of a couple of young kids in inner-city Chicago trying to become basketball superstars. William Gates and Arthur Agee both attend the private school that their idol, Isaiah Thomas, went to. Agee doesn’t make it past the first year and returns home to public school. Neither one ends up making it in basketball, but Agee does get a small part in the basketball movie, Passing Glory in 1999.

Survivor Tocantins- Week 9

Thoughts

I get it that Coach and Tyson are such good buddies that they don't want to get rid of each other, but why are they so intent on booting Sierra? Do they have no idea how to play Survivor? 'She's the only outcast of the group so let's get rid of her,' that's their thought process? Wow guys, at least try to bounce JT, the guy who is good at challenges and everyone likes. He will get more votes than you if you take him to the end.

On a positive note for this year's crew, they finally made a great move. Although Stephen came up with the plan, JT gets the 20 point bonus for the back-stab. He had a clear-cut pact with Coach and turned on him to oust Tyson out of the game. It was obvious that JT still had a stronger bond with Stephen and Taj from back when they were in Jalapao, so when Stevie brought up the idea to get rid of Tyson now (which is the obvious move and has been for a couple weeks) JT jumped on board and they got rid of the most entertaining dude on the show.

20. Coach Carter (2005)
Starring: Samuel L. Jackson, Rob Brown, Rick Gonzalez

In this tale of an inner city group of basketball players having a tough time with a new, stringent coach, Samuel L. plays the black Norman Dale and sets his sights high with this crew of thugs and gangsters. He locks the gym with chains after the dudes start failing in school. This obviously causes a raucous in the community, but he doesn’t give in until the kids get their grades up. Oh and yes he makes Spanish from Old School do 1,000 suicides in order to get back on the team.

Favorite Character: Worm

19. Juwanna Mann (2002)
Starring: Miguel A. Nunez Jr., Vivica A. Fox, Kevin Pollack

Ahh yes the professional basketball star that gets booted from the league because he takes all his clothes off while standing on the scorers’ table. Oh that’s not the crazy part? True, Jamaal Jeffries then puts on a wig and a woman’s body suit and becomes Juwanna Mann, the new star of the women’s professional basketball league. We have one of those? Either way, the comedy is great here, as Jamaal’s ridiculously conceited attitude shines as he destroys every women's basketball player in his way.

Get her off the stage, she's wrecking the show

Lil Rounds- (Chaka Kahn/I'm Every Woman) I don't even have anything to say anymore. If she makes it to the top five it will be embarrassing for everyone involved.

Some ups, some downs...some ups

Matt Giraud- (Bee Gees/Stayin' Alive) I think with this song all of Matt's runs and riffs got a little out of control and hurt his performance. Also his falsetto at the beginning was so weak it might have thrown the whole thing off.

Allison Iraheta- (Donna Summer/Hot Stuff) She finally made serious changes to a song, and it kinda worked for me. Slowing down this song actually made me enjoy it. Except for the part near the end when the backup singers were doing most of the joint, I thought it was good.

Danny Gokey- (Earth, Wind and Fire/September) For the second week in a row Gokes has taken one from the Rickey Smith catalog. Unlike last week's, I enjoyed this one much more than when Rickey did it. There was nothing special about this, but solid overall.

Anoop Desai- (Donna Summer/Dim All the Lights) I don't know the song so I'm going to say that Kutner either chose the perfect song or made some great changes to it. The song worked so well that I have him as my number three this week even though he had a couple vocal hiccups. He again took an old song and made it feel contemporary.

Making a serious push for the finals

Kris Allen- (Donna Summer/She Works Hard For the Money) Wow, the kid is making great moves. With only the bongos and bass behind him, his guitar playing could shine through and it added a lot to his performance. The arrangement changes to the song were fantastic. Kris is giving it his best effort to put his own twist on everything he does. And we all know you can go far in this game doing it that way.

Holding everyone off at more than an arm's length

Adam Lambert- (Yvonne Elliman/If I Can't Have You) I knew it. He is seriously going every other week from upbeat joint to slow-it-down ballad. In a week of disco that I thought maybe he'd have to stray from that, he completely reworked this song. I loved that he made a point before he went on stage to say that he was gonna connect with the song. The judges and audience both love that, and Ms. Lambert can act like he is connecting even if he isn't because as we know he has been on Broadway. Oh and as always his vocals were the best of the night.

Buy More Chuck

After a great four episode run, last night's fantastic penultimate ep and a set up for what could be one of the best hours of television this year, everyone should be excited for next week's Chuck season finale.

Last night episode had everything you could ask for. There was loads of action, there were plenty of laughs at the Buy More and there were many great Chuck/Sarah moments throughout. Not to mention (SPOILER ALERT) Chuck telling Captain Awesome that he's a CIA spy. There were the continuation of great guest spots, with my birthday buddy Scott Bakula as Chuck's dad and Chevy Chase as an unbelievable villain.

Allison Waldman wrote a great review over at TV Squad.

As Chuck has quickly moved itself into a top five spot on my tv favorites, it is in danger of not coming back for a third season. Many people are doing their part to keep Chuck alive, but if anything will help it will be ratings for the finale. So if you aren't doing anything Monday night, throw the tube on NBC at 8:00 PM for the Kid here. I don't ask that you watch, just put the tv on. If you have digital cable, you can even leave the tv off, just put the box to NBC.

That's Some Big Shark Harry

Now that's a movie. The most important thing to come out of watching Jaws was how sweet it is that I now know what "That's some bad hat Harry" comes from. Bad Hat Harry Productions, run by Brian Singer, produces House, M.D. and after the credits roll a cartoon dude says the famous quote. I never knew what it was from but always thought it was catchy. Apparently Singer liked Jaws, or just the line, or both.

In the early going I was loving the fact that the people of the town, especially the mayor, were so angry about not having the beach open. I don't know about you, but if anyone mentioned that there might be a shark in the water, I wouldn't go near that beach ever again. I would live with no money if it meant I didn't get eaten by a great white shark.

So granted this movie was made in 1975 and the special effects of the shark are horrid, I was still freaked out a good amount of the time. It's a good thing I had the lights on while watching or things could have gotten a little out of control. When Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) is out on his boat with Chief Brody (Roy Scheider) and he goes down to check out underneath the small boat, I almost fell out of my comfortable recliner when the dead dude's head popped out of nowhere.

Mr. Quint (Robert Shaw) was real sweet until he got eaten by Jaws. While the three dudes were out on the boat and it started getting a little too scary for Chief Brody, he decided to call the Coast Guard for help. Quint wanted none of this and smashed the radio to pieces, while Brody was in mid call. Mr. Quint quietly said "Excuse me, Chief" and handed him the bat. Classic.

As far as Chief Brody goes, I could take him or leave. But what made this shark hunting experience great was the combination of Quint and Hooper. These two guys were extremely different, yet I loved them both. Sure they both loved sharks, but the similarities ended there. The Dreyfuss laugh was unbelievable as always.

The only thing I didn't really like about this movie was that it ended immediately after they killed the great white shark. I would've enjoyed a nice little homecoming for Hooper and Brody. With the town all happy that they can have a worry free rest of the summer and Brody reuniting with the family as he says goodbye to his new friend Hooper. But hey that's just one man's opinion.

Survivor Tocantins- Week 8

Thoughts

Wow Coach. Wow. Let's start by talking about Coach's campfire story about how he was military airlifted in to the amazon river (he pulled some strings). While kayaking down the Amazon he felt like somebody was watching him. Sure enough it was indigenous tribesmen all around him and they started to fire at him with bow and arrows. Finally they captured him, tied him up and started beating him to death. For some reason they turned away long enough for Coach to break through the rope and escape back into his kayak and paddle down the river. He paddled so hard his hands started to bleed. We later find out at tribal council that this was only one of eight or more times that he's been three seconds away from death. How do you get to a point in your life that either you actually believe people are going to believe these stories, or you yourself actually believe the stories you have invented in your mind? Well Coach is there, and as much as I hate him, it makes me happy to yell at the tv screen.

Here's why I enjoy Big Brother more than Survivor. There is never enough time for the castaways to make any great plays. In Big Brother they have a week between eliminations, which give everyone plenty of time to plan, sneak around and backstab. With the Survivor eliminations coming every couple days it's like they get one thing in their mind and don't have any time to change their mind.

The fantasy aspect is all but over as Jaydon continues to dominate.

Eastbound & Down Is F'ing In

The hype on Eastbound got so high that it was no longer possible for me to not watch it. I recently finished the six short episodes of season one and was pleased but not that impressed. Will Ferrell and Adam McKay produce the new series, while Danny McBride and Jody Hill wrote the episodes.

Yeah sure he is the main character, but Danny McBride makes this show. It's not half as good with somebody else that people think is funny. He's been getting a lot of credit now for his work in Pineapple Express and Tropic Thunder, but if you want to see him at his best, check him out as Rico in Hot Rod.

The maturation of Stevie (right) from loser dork into loser that acts like a jerk was a masterpiece. Whether it's dressing in all black at the bbq or bringing his band students out to the baseball field and yelling at them when they weren't facing the right way, he was gold by the end of this season.

The third and final thing that made this first season good was cursing at a middle school. For this reason alone, thank you for HBO. The f word in from of little kids is hillarious. Especially when no one, even the principal, punishes him for his behavior.

Idol at the Movies

I think anyone of these top seven (except for maybe Lil) could have/would have won season three. Tonight everyone was very good (except for Lil).

Yo producers, if you run out of time and have to cut the judges in half for comments, please get rid of Kara. Why did you bring her on? Four is way too many.

So tonight is songs from the movies. Let's see the run down of the top seven.

Go Home

Lil Rounds- (The Rose, The Rose/Bette Midler) So as this started I thought to myself, wow this is finally not boring. But by the end I realized that I had spaced out through half of it, so I guess it was once again a snooze alert. Add to this the fact that she was whining and complaining about the judges and I say she needs to go.

Not Impressed

Kris Allen- (Once, Falling Slowly/Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova) I guess it does pay to do songs that the audience knows, because the two that I like the leasts are the two I had never heard of. Kris started a little slow, but just before the halfway mark he really brought me in and I started to enjoy his performance.

Allison Iraheta- (Armageddon, I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing/Aerosmith) Everyone and their brother has done this song so you have knock it out of the park. I don't think she did that. It was good, but not great. She started out pretty different from the original which gets you hooked for the rest of it. This makes it okay that the second half was basically a second rate version.

Top Four Dudes

Matt Giraud- (Don Juan DeMarco, Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman/Bryan Adams) Bryan Adams really does nothing with his songs. Both Matt and (will get to later) Kutner made fantastic changes to his songs just by show better vocal talent. Giraud had the vocal riffs going but there were a couple moments where he kinda messed up and it sounded a little off. That's why he's not in my top three tonight.

Danny Gokey- (Endless Love, Endless Love/Lionel Richie and Diana Ross) By far his best of the season. I loved that it was just him and the harp up there. I totally disagree with Simon, he did change the song. The original has way more going on musically, Gokes stripped it down so he could show off the vocal talent that I can now see that he has. Unlike past weeks, he showed some major range in this performance. Sure it doesn't compare to Rickey Smith's version in season two, but what does?

Anoop Desai- (Robin Hood, I Do It For You/Bryan Adams) As I said before, Bryan Adams is easy to outperform and Anoop killed this one. Way better than the original. Dr. Kutner has been resurrected and this was finally two great weeks in a row for Noop Dog Millionaire. He made such great changes in the melody of the song. Awesome.

Adam Lambert- (Easy Rider, Born To Be Wild/Steppenwolf) Unlike Larry Avitamiboblay, the judges, America, Barstool Sports, JJ, and yes I love Ms. Lambert. This was unbelievable! Like he did with Play that Funky Music, Adam took a song that I really dislike and turned it into a masterpiece. It's kind of ridiculous how he has been like clockwork so far, in that he goes with an upbeat joint followed by a slow-down ballad every other week. If he doesn't come out with something slow next week, I'll be shocked.

Sarah Connor Chronicled?

It's really a shame that people haven't been watching Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, because this past Friday's Season Two Finale might have been the final episode of the series. With ratings lower than Howie Do It and Wife Swap, as well as anything they put on CBS, most are certain that Terminator has run its course on television. Others have a slight bit of hope that the opening of the Christian Bale starring Terminator Salvation (watch trailer) will give enough reason to keep the show on the air.

I didn't come into watching this show as a fan of the Arnold movies. I had a clean slate and got hooked right away. Now sure, it has had some dull episodes, but so has what I consider the best show on television, Lost. The way Terminator has picked up over the second half of this season has been terrific.

The final episode, maybe ever, was fantastic and everyone seems to thinks so. After Cameron (right) demolished everyone in her path to get Sarah out of jail, the good metal chick went to super computer John Henry and voluntarily gave him her chip. Meanwhile crazy liquid metal Weaver meets with Sarah and John Connor to let them know SkyNet is her enemy also. Here's where a fantastic interaction occurs.

Sarah: "We need to get out, they're trying to kill my son."
Weaver: "No they're trying to kill my son, just like you are." (speaking of John Henry)
Sarah: "I'm sure she's done it." (thinking Cameron was going to destroy John Henry)
Weaver: "You better hope not. You're John may save the world, but he can't do it without mine."
--Boom! Roasted.

After they all find a chip-less Cameron and a missing John Henry, Weaver travels through time to go get John Henry back. And sure enough Johnny Connor (left) goes with her to find Cameron's chip. When they get there, they are smack dab in the resistance with a healthy and alive brother combo of Derek and Kyle Reese, as well as a human looking Cameron (probably the mold they use for her). When John talks to a Derek that doesn't recognize him, he let's him know that his name is John Connor. "Anybody heard the name John Connor?" Derek asks. Boy did they screw up the space-time continuum somehow.

The only reason I won't be extremely upset with leaving this story completely up in the air is because there are going to be three more Terminator movies over the next decade. That being said, I would love to see a season three of the Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Thoughts

Tyson was on fire today. In the immunity challenge but mostly in awesome quotes. After the merge, while scheming he claims "I can mold this game however I want right now." Then after he wins the challenge he says "I kick ass like I always do. If you ladies want my phone number, I guess...ask." Then later he goes "Lying to everybody actually brings me pleasure." And finally he brings out "I never liked Sierra. I don't know why she's out here other than to give hope to all the stupid people in the world." Amazing ep for him.

Interesting technique Joe. Get a bug to crawl up your scab so that it gets infected and you have to get removed from the show via helicopter or you will die. Bravo Joe. Way to screw my squad over. Meanwhile Jaydon continues to dominate.

Scott MacIntyre- (Survivor/The Search Is Over) The dude that looks like Matthew Berry awkwardly posing for this picture just sound so bad to me all the time. Scotty Don't was doing absolutely nothing with the guitar up there and looked even more uncomfortable than usual up there. Please stop voting for him.

Lil Rounds- (Tina Turner/What's Love Got To Do With It) Well Lil's mom let us know that the name is just Lil and it's not short for Lillian or Little. That was much more interesting than the performance, which was again a big time snooze alert.

Kris Allen- (Don Henley/All She Wants To Do Is Dance) What with the new fad of performing within the crowd this season? It's pretty dumb. It also doesn't help that both times it's been done the performer took a step backward. This was boring for me and the changes he made from the original worsened it.

Somewhat Enjoyed

Danny Gokey- (Mickey Gilley/Stand By Me) It was nice to see Danny calm things down in the beginning of the song, but it's when he pumps it up in the second half that I really enjoyed it. He called it the Mickey Gilley version of 1980, but it was nothing like that. It was also nothing like the Quiet Pool #430 Ben E. King version, but he did pretty good overall.

Allison Iraheta- (Bonnie Rait/I Can't Make You Love Me) This is the Allison we've been missing for the past couple of weeks. I might have even liked this performance better than the original. She showed very good vocals and made the song her own without changing the arrangement.

Anoop Desai- (Cindy Lauper/True Colors) Wait I thought Dr. Kutner died the other night...how is he singing now? Noop Dog Millionaire came back to where he should be with a slower joint and showed great control throughout. I liked starting with just the guitar in the background and then picking it up. He doesn't do too much with the song but I really liked him again.

Really Enjoyed

Matt Giraud- (Stevie Wonder/Part Time Lover) This dude's voice talent is amazing. The range he has, and the way he can move around it so cleanly is unbelievable. Because he can do so many different things, he made some vocal changes to this classic Stevie song and I still loved it. If anyone else tries this song, they bomb.

Adam Lambert- (Tears For Fears/Mad World) I can't remember the last time (if ever) that Simon has given a standing ovation, but he did tonight. Ms. Lambert brings it every night and he killed it again. Great part in his opening video when he says, "I just loved playing dress up, not soccer." The difference between this and Anoop's is that when Adam starts it out soft, it still is really good and I hang on every note.

And now for the most controversial of my final four attractions...The Curse of DarKastle. The brother of Universal's Spider-Man ride, DarKastle has been a favorite of mine and JJ's since we first went on it two years ago. Many other people think we overrate the attraction, but it is a carbon copy of the highly toughted Spider-Man. I think the queue and theming of DarKastle are better than Spidey. The Sweet 16 in this region was incredible, with DarKastle, Splash Mt., Soarin' and Griffon. All four are unique, three of the four have great theming, and the one that doesn't, Griffon, is one of the best coasters I've been on. When it came down to it the overall experience of DarKastle barely edged out Splash Mountain to reach the Final Four.

SNL Uses The Fake Voice

All three are great example of how using a fake voice, whether it be on the phone or not, has been giving people (and by people I mean me) comedic value for years now.

Loved seeing someone address the issue and make it into a skit. Now granted they get away from the actual point. The point is that you change the way you talk depending on who it is, not that you talk exactly like the other person. Example: if Rogen's friend talks like Yoda, might he want to hear the comfort of an Obi-Won voice? Either way some of the other voices were great.

The Correct Answer Is Cool Hand Luke

As John Cusack says in Serendipity, "The correct answer is Cool Hand Luke," as he answers the question 'what's your favorite movie?" While I can confidently say it doesn't crack my top 50, I thoroughly enjoyed it and can see how it got the number one spot for him.

One of my favorite things about a movie is if they can get the title into the dialogue in a sly and creative way. I thought they did this perfectly. After Luke bluffs everybody out of their money in a nice game of stud, Frank Drebin's boss (right) says 'he kept coming with nothin.' Paul the Newman responds with 'sometimes nothin can be a real cool hand.' This phrase begins to grow on the character throughout the movie, as he is then called Mr. Cool Hand later on and finally given the monniker of Cool Hand Luke by the end. Loved it.

I consider myself a decently big Paul the Newman guy, as I loved both Butch Cassidy and The Sting. I'd take The Sting over the other two, but I really like all three.

A great opening can do wonders for a movie and this had it. Luke getting drunk and slowly taking the tops off of parking meters without a care in the world. This was classic.

I had a tough time figuring out how long they had been at the jail/camp. It seemed like they had been there for a while, like maybe six months. Why is Luke so determined to escape when he only has a two year sentence. Yeah sure it's a terrible time, but Jesus you're almost halfway done.

"What we have here is a failure to communicate." The famous quote from this movie was first said by the captain after Luke is returned following his first attempt to escape. I thought to myself, really this is such a great line? I was pleasantly surprised at the end when Luke repeats the line to the cops as they show up to take him down after his third failed escape. Awesome quote.

Friday Night Loss

Tonight aired one of my favorite Friday Night Lights episodes in recent memory. Take that for what it's worth, my memory is not so good. I felt so complete when it ended that I wished it was the season finale.

Lyla reunited with Buddy on account of the fact that the Riggins household is a dump. Tyra wrote a very moving college essay that was narrated over scenes of all the characters as they got ready for the State Championship game. Landry got his chance to play on special teams and ended up getting a nice smooch from Tyra (below left) after she realized how amazingly nice he has been to her. Julie and Saracen's grandma shared a nice moment after figuring out that it was best to let Matty (right) go to art school in Chicago. Matty got to play QB again after JD (or Sam Bonsey) was benched for acting like a jerk to everyone on the team. The thing is, maybe they should've called some running plays if the pass rush was so dominating. Saracen ended up leading the Panters all the way back to lead by one. Riggins was real emotional throughout about his Era coming to an End, and capped it off by leaving his boots on the field to end the ep. Coach T, as always, made a fantastic, heart-felt speach after the game, commending the players for what they did on the field.

What they did was lose. On a last second, game-winning field goal by the heavily favored South Texas Titans, the Dillon Panthers failed to win the Texas State Football Championship. Now they won the championship in the first season and I was worried that they were going to be dumb and have them keep winning and winning. This is the second season in a row where they have not won State. Nice work.

For a while I didn't know if I thought FNL was still a top flight show, but after tonight I'm convinced it's still up there. Thankfully there are at least two more seasons in store. I just hope that they don't keep all the same characters around...maybe Riggins can stay for his fourth senior year.

Wake me up when we get there...snooze alert. I kind of felt like Lil Rounds was singing during this movie (Blade Runner, #109) it was moving so slowly. As much as I bashed on Kill Bill (#137), at least I had plenty to say about it. This was just plain bad and I only have a few things to say.

No Indy

This Deckard character was no Han Solo and definitely nothing close to YOUR BOY (copyright Michael Wilbon) Indiana Jones. I didn't even enjoy this guy. Plus they gave me no back story and never let me have feelings towards him. So as he was in these epics battles I basically thought 'whatever, I kinda like these robot dudes more than Indy.'

Realization Number Zero

So the main bad guy, Roy (right), pulls this total 180 without any notification to the audience that he's having a realization. The dude and Indy are battling for a good 10 minutes and then as soon as Indy is going to fall of the roof, Roy catches him and pulls him up. Come on.

10 Years From Now

I can't wait for 2019 when there are flying cars, Terminator-esque robots and old school 80s tvs that you can talk to.

Just Bad

Megan Joy Corkrey- (Turn Your Lights Down Low/Bob Marley) I've finally turned the corner on Miss Tattoo. In the early stages I found her voice different and enjoyable, if not a little off. Now it is really annoying and seems off tune because of it. Bobby M was rolling over in his grave listening to this.

Lil Rounds- (I Surrender/Celine Dion) What a snooze alert. She belts it out but I find myself completely bored every time she takes the stage. Figure it out Little.

Anoop Desai- (Caught Up/Usher) Although NoopDog Millionaire's vocals were fine and dandy, the performance was similar to the garbage he did early in the competition. Don't ever listen to Randy's suggestions. Dr. Kutner barely hung around when he did upbeat joints and killed it with slow, powerful, classic songs. Big mistake.

Just Deese

Scott MacIntyre- (Just the Way You Are/Billy Joel) Not as good as Billy J and nowhere near as sweet as John Stevens' season three performance, but definitely Scotty Don't's best performance thus far. His voice still sounded weird and flat at the beginning but he kinda worked through it by the end and might have saved himself another week.

Allison Iraheta- (Don't Speak/No Doubt) Great song...Way worse than the original. Her voice seems too raw and unpolished to take on this song. The thing is, I love the song so I was still drawn to it and liked it more than many others tonight.

Matt Giraud- (You Found Me/The Fray) He definitely has the second best vocal skills and I loved the little riff into the falsetto near the end, but this was not one of his best performances. I think it is song choice and if I were Kara I'd say "Why not do 'How to Save a Life' because I know everything." But last week he killed it and was in the bottom three so who knows?

Just Good

Danny Gokey- (What Hurts the Most/Rascal Flatts) Definitely a step up from last week. It was nice to see Gokes slow it down and show us his voice and his soul. It was a very good, if safe, performance.

Just Great

Kris Allen- (Ain't No Sunshine/Bill Withers) It looks like someone is finally stepping into the ring and making creative and fantastic changes to the arrangement and presentation to songs, like Adam has been doing since day one. Kris has done solo, he's done guitar and tonight he did piano. He's clearly a great musician, he's a very good singer, and now seems to be turning into a fantastic performer.

Adam Lambert- (Play That Funky Music/Wild Cherry) I will preface my comments about Ms. Lambert's performance with the fact that I can't stand this song and have never liked it. That being said, I loved this performance by Adam. If you can get someone to really enjoy listening to a song they can't stand, you are something else. The dude's combination of vocal skills, performance, creative choices and his chameleon-like ability to morph himself to fit the genre he's singing may make him the best Idol contestant yet.

2009 Attraction Tourney: Universal Region

Absolutely no upsets until #3 Indiana Jones Adventure takes down #2 Incredible Hulk? Crazy bracket. In the heated play-in game The Enchanted Tiki-Room, with dancing, took out Leslie's Nielsen's Pirates 4D show of Busch Gardens fame, only to inevitably lose to Spider Man in the first round. The top half of this bracket was stacked compared to the bottom. Spider Man, Rock 'n Roller Coaster, Test Track, Nitro, Jungle Cruise, Kumba and Tiki Room...all-star cast. Nothing to talk about down bottom other than Indy Adventure, which still has one of the best queues I've even walked through. Needless to say, Spidy comes out of the region to make it to the Final Four.

2009 Attraction Tourney: Disney World Region

So today begins the 2nd Annual Quiet Pool Theme Park Attraction Tournament. Last year I was inspired by ThemeParkInsider.com who created a 64 attraction tournament to figure out the best ride in America. TPI had readers vote on the individual match-ups to decide the winner of each round and since I have no readers, I just decide which ride is better on my own.

After this year's disgrace of a result so far over at TPI, it seems that mine is the most reliable source for a subjective theme park attraction tournament on the internet. The people at Cedar Point have linked to the TPI website, so that their rides will win and it has worked like a charm. Last year's winner, Tower of Terror, was upset by the 33rd seeded Maverick of the aforementioned Cedar Point. There were 3,000 votes on Maverick's day of voting, compared to 500-600 on every other day.

To make the seedings I again used the ratings from TPI's readers.

Disney World Region

Last year's champ, Tower of Terror glided through the region with its toughest match-up in round two against Buzz Lightyear. Nice little run by Great Adventure's Superman coaster, making it to the Regional Final. Pirates and Haunted Mansion are rated highly and have great theming, but don't have the juice to get by good coasters.

Scott MacIntyre- (You Can't Hurry Love) Why didn't he sing Stevie Wonder or Ray Charles? Scotty went with the Supremes and sounded just as nasaly as ever. Vanessa Olivarez was eliminated on this song so let's hope Blindy is too.

Michael Sarver- (Ain't Too Proud To Beg) It was weird seeing someone sing this song and not start it by stealing the microphone from somebody. God this was karaoke. Where's Leon when you need him? Next.

Wow, who cares?

Lil Rounds- (Heat Wave) This week it was upbeat AND a powerful vocal and it still bored me to death. Is it the song choices or just her (lack of) personality?

Megan Joy Corkrey- (For Once In My Life) Her dress matched her colorful tatt oo! Okay so I can see that her voice really doesn't work for some people, but for some strange reason I enjoy it. That being said, this was less than stellar.

Decent, but worse than usual

Allison Iraheta- (Papa Was a Rolling Stone) "That was Dennis's voice on Cloud Nine!" Although the judges praised her up the wazoo, this didn't really work for me. Maybe Kara thinks that if the producers put someone in the last spot, it is automatically going to be unbelievable. Unlike her previous performances, this was a little too sound alike because Dennis had the raspy, rocker thing down.

Danny Gokey- (Get Ready) It is tough to do The Temps not only because they were unbelievable, but because they had Eddie on falsetto, Mel on the bass and Otis, Paul and David with the normal voices. Both Allison and Danny tried to emulate this entire group. It didn't work in either case. The only thing I loved about Danny's work was when he jumped in on the dance move with the back up singers.

Not just good, but Great

Anoop Desai- (Ooh Baby Baby) Smokey explained that this song came about at the end of a Miracles concert when he just started singing 'Ooh Baby Baby' out of nowhere and they then turned it into a song. This was the second straight week of impressive work by Kutner. I never knew he had this falsetto in his back pocket.

Kris Allen- (How Sweet It Is) This was very refreshing for me. It was a combo of the JT and Marvin versions with his own Jason Mrazy vibe to it. His vocals didn't knock me out of the park, but he has a unique sound and the performance was a great choice to do with his guitar.

Matt Giraud- (Let's Get It On) His vocals seem to get better and better every week. His range and riffs are fantastic. He started on the piano and stood up as the pace of the song picked up. Loved the transition, only wish he had stayed on the piano a little long as his take on the song via the keys was fantastic.

Why don't we just give him the trophy?

Adam Lambert- (Track of My Tears) If it gets a Standing O from Smokey, it gets a Standing O from me. (And some of you may know my ethics involved in standing ovations) This is what Adam did this week...he took all of the criticism from the judges, media and me that said he went a little crazy last week and thought about it. He then got rid of his black nail polish, cut his hair and threw some product in there, put on a suit, and then picked a classic song, put his own spin on it and knocked it out of the f'in park. Everyone else, good luck trying to beat him.

Raftery With The Smooch

After what most people are billing as an uneventful first four days of the NCAA Tournament, I would tend to disagree with them. Just because there weren't a lot of huge upsets doesn't mean it wasn't exciting. There were many close calls with Memphis and even Pitt in the first round. I like to see the sleepers win a game here and there, but I'm glad to see all big names in the Sweet 16. The fact that we are blessed with these kinds of match-ups this weekend is awesome.

It's all gold but what got me loving him to death was sometime back in high school when someone hit a bank shot on the first play of the game and he goes with, "A little smooch early."

My favorite of all time was in college when a dude banked a shot but it circled around the rim, hit the board again and fell in. Raf goes with "Oh with the double smoocharoo!"

This past weekend near the end of the Pitt/Ok State game a Pitt player went to the bench and an assistant coach leaned over and kissed him on the top of the head. There was a bit of a pause in Verne's commentary before Raf comes in with the emphatic "The Kissss!" Unbelievable.

First things first, Simon's word of the season is indulgent. The problem is he doesn't use it correctly. Three or four times this year he has called someone's performance indulgent and this makes no sense. Their performance was giving gratification? To who? the audience? They should thank him for such a nice compliment. I guess they don't understand English over there in England, because what he means to say is that the performance was self-indulgent, as in it is gratifying to the person singing. And that it is all about them. Now continue making a fool of yourself Simon.

On to Grand Ole Opry week of Idol...

God Awful

Michael Sarver- (Aint Goin' Down til the Sun Comes Up) I never thought someone would equal Josh Gracin's terrible performance during country week of season two, but the big guy pulled it off. He chose the same God awful song as Gracin and did just as terrible. At least he didn't lose his breath half way through because he ran up and down the stands.

Scott MacIntyre- (Wild Angels) This blind guy's voice just sounds weird. It's not pleasant. His falsetto is really bad, but he picked a likable song so he has that going for him.

Blahh

Lil Rounds- (Independence Day) I've never been so bored during a performance by someone with such a powerful voice. Question. Is Lil short for Lilian, or is it short for Little like she's a hip hop artist? Simon and I both thought it was L'il but some are claiming it's an actual name like Lilian...interesting.

Alexis Grace- (Jolene) Somebody did this last year during Dolly Parton week. Although she outperformed whoever that was, it was still very bland for me. This song just isn't good.

Megan Joy Corkrey- (Walkin' After Midnight) What happened to how she was singing it during the video? She sounded awesome in that warm-up. During her performance it was much more nasally, due to her sickness I'm assuming. In general I like her sound, but nothing especially.

Kris Allen- (To Make You Feel My Love) Enjoyed this smooth ballad, but didn't bring anything great to the table. I preferred him last week.

Crazy

Adam Lambert- (Ring of Fire) In the past he's gone crazy and it worked, this week the nutbar went out of control and it didn't work. Maybe he's getting a little too big for himself now. As awful as this was I still kind of enjoyed it. If anything for the entertainment value of him being a psycho.

Good, Not Great

Anoop Desai- (Always On My Mind) This is the Dr. Kutner I thought we were getting during Hollywood Week. Instead of imitating a song that he likes, he took a different song and made it sound like him. Slumdog really saved himself this week and might be back in the mix.

Allison Iraheta- (Blame It On Your Heart) Solid performance. She seems to take any song and turn it into something different solely because of her rocker chick voice.

The Best

Matt Giraud- (So Small) This seemed spectacular because of the rest of the performances tonight. He, unlike Scott, gets something extra from his piano playing. When they zoom in on the keys you can see how ridiculous he is. His singing was real solid and again he killed it with the falsetto.

Danny Gokey- (Jesus Take the Wheel) Both dudes that killed it picked Carrie Underwood songs...hmmm. Again this felt unbelievable because of the other jokers couldn't pull off country. He just comes to play each week, without the freakishness you will get from Lambert.

Bill Gets His

Since I enjoyed Volume 2 much more than the first five chapters of Kill Bill, I will actually be speaking mostly of the things I enjoyed in the red Uma Thurman movie (they never really got to why she was all about yellow in the first film).

Kiddo's Origin
I always love origin stories, a la Batman Begins. In volume 2 we get to see the origin of Kiddo's fighting expertise, plus the satisfaction of a conclusion, while skipping some of the boring middle stuff that we endured in volume 1. I loved every second of the crazy old Chinese dude, Pai-Mei. Every time he said something mean and stroked his beard it was gold. Also I love that learning to use chopsticks was part of her training.

Shoot the Chick
All throughout the first movie and during the beginning of volume 2 I said to myself, 'who cares if she's sweet with a sword, when is someone just gonna shoot the broad?' It was extremely gratifying when my boy (copyright Tony Kornheiser) Michael Madsen blew Kiddo away with a shotgun as she opened his trailer door looking for a fight.

Six Feet Under
So the origins story was great to show that her major focus in the training was being able to punch something from three inches away (how often is this needed?), because we see five years later she is buried alive in a casket by Budd. Now sure she can punch her way out of the casket but isn't that the much easier task than climbing up six feet through the earth? How is this feat not the one she needed the background in?

B.B., Bill and Kiddo
Talk about grabbing at your heart after almost four hours of ruthless killing. Kiddo finally gets to Bill, the man responsible for her near death and what she thought was the loss of her child, and she is ready for a massive dual. When she opens the door with her gun, Bill is there with their child playing with toy guns, pretending to shoot 'Mommy.' The four year old girl has been waiting her entire life for her mom to wake up and come home to see her. It got me, did it get you?

P.S.
I love that her name is actually Kiddo, Beatrix Kiddo. The whole time Bill was calling her Kiddo, I thought it was a nice little moniker. You know like pal, chief or buddy. Nice little twist there Quentin.

Tracy Back on SNL

If I knew that all it took to get politics off of the cold open on SNL was to get Tracy Morgan as the host, I would've been petitioning for this for years now. Instead of President O'Bama, Hillary Clinton, or some other current politician, we got to see Tracy walking through 30 Rock and punching people in the face. Now that is comedy.

It was so great having Tracy, a seasoned SNL vet, as the host last night. When Tracy plays Tracy Jordan on '30 Rock' he is one of my favorite characters on television. Last night he brought that same fire to SNL, and although there were no out of this world sketches, there were no bad ones either. He brought back an old favorite, Brian Fellow's Safari Planet, and the uppity cow was fantastic.

Tracy didn't bring anything extra to this sketch, but as one of my favorite running skits, the Scared Straight program was again fantastic. Nobody can outdo Kenan in this role, probably my favorite of this SNL season.

Not Killing Bill Yet

Just finished Kill Bill Volume 1 and have some thoughts on it...

Is this serious?
What an absolutely ridiculous movie. I thought I was fine with joints that were unrealistic, so the fact that I found myself being turned off by a lot of the fight scenes was interesting to me. Maybe it was because it was a chick doing all the killing. If it were a dude that was killing everyone in the world, I probably would've accepted it. Seriously though, I was fine with everything until she got to the Japanese club and over 500 dudes come in to kill Uma at once, and she gets through it with ease. Not only did she kill everyone but the camera caught her cutting off at least over 100 limbs or heads in this scene alone.

Animation?
I disliked the ten minutes of animation during the Japanese story telling. If I wanted to watch a half live action half animated film, I'd break out Enchanted.

Favorite Joints
At the beginning when Uma and Vivica are fightin' it out and then the daughter walks in. They chill, and are all like 'ho hum, just another day. i'm all bloody but you've seen that before little girl. the dog just made a mess of the living room.'

One Jap dude questions Lucy Liu being the leader of the Tokyo mob because she's a half Chinese-half Japanese-American. Lucy walks across the table and cuts the guy's head off. Grabs it and tells the rest of the council that any subject can be talked about except for what got this jerk's head sliced off.

On the Edge
Even though all in all it wasn't one of my favorite movies, I give Tarrentino credit for getting me on the edge of my seat throughout. Not as much for what was going to happen with the storyline, which is the type of edge sitting I enjoy more, but I was so worried about what gory action was going to occur next. At some points I literally had my hand over my eyes, worried about what I was going to see happen.

Survivor Tocantins- Week 5

Thoughts

When you decide to go on Survivor shouldn't the first thing going through your head every day be don't throw a tantrum? Taj almost threw everything out the window when she came back from the immunity challenge and started going crazy on everyone. What were you thinking Mrs. Eddie George?? Lucky for her JT had a bone to pick with Spencer after figuring out that he was a useless little boy (or girl) in the last challenge.

Jaydon takes over the lead with Mags's elimination. If I can't win this thing I'd like to see Jaydon take it home. Although I can see my boy Joe taking me pretty far in this thing. We'll see what happens.

Bye Bye Buchanan

This past Monday Bill Buchanan sacrificed his life to save the President of the United States, Allison Taylor. As they do every time a main character dies, the people at '24' used a silent clock to fade out to commercial after the explosion that Bill created.

This is significant to me because Bill Buchanan has been my favorite character during the seven seasons of the show. Sure I've liked Tony and you can't be a 24 fan if you don't love Jack, but Bill really got it done for me day in and day out.

Bill first appears in season 4 when he comes to CTU LA from Division to oversee things. By the end of the season, Tony and Michelle Dessler retire and Bill becomes head of CTU. In season 5 Bill, along with Chloe, spend most of the day helping Jack be Jack behind closed door. They get detained for some of the season because of it. It was actions like this that made Bill and also David Palmer in his day, the best characters on the show.

Ten Most Influential and Heart Wrenching Deaths

10. Paul Raines (Day 4)- After taking a bullet for Jack, Paul is being operated on in CTU, but Jack forces the doctor to switch over to a suspect that they need information out of. Raines dies on the table.

9. Michelle Dessler (Day 5)- At the beginning of season five, Michelle is blown up by a bomb in her car a la Jack McKay.

8. David Palmer (Day 5)- About five minutes before Michelle, Palmer got shot by a sniper within the first five minutes of the season. This death was way to abrupt to get at me the way it should have.

7. Lynn McGill (Day 5)- Rudy really took one for the team after the poisonous gas was released inside of CTU. It would have killed everyone in the building if he didn't go on his suicide mission to stop it from getting to Jack, Chloe and the gang.

6. Bill Buchanan (Day 7)- Another self-sacrifice for the good of others, Bill blew himself up to save the President. Not enough drama leading up to his move, and no slow mo, what's that about?

5. Curtis Manning (Day 6)- After taking bad guy Assad into his clutches and threatening to kill him, Jack tells him to put his gun away or he'll have no other choice. Curtis refuses and Jack shoots and kills the long time CTU agent.

4. George Mason (Day 2)- Mason was hit with poisonous plutonium earlier in the season and was told he would have maybe a week to live. Knowing this he piloted the nuclear bomb so that it was near no one else when it blew up.

3. Milo Pressman (Day 6)- Milo returned to 24 following a five year absence and left in style. When the Chinese bad guys came into CTU to take control they asked who the leader was. To protect Nadia, Milo said it was him, as he stood to face the Chinamen. They shot him instantly.

2. Edgar Stiles (Day 5)- Wow season five was action packed. Edgar was caught in the poisonous gas that McGill eventually stopped. His downfall was filled with slow-mo and a great score that grabbed my heart right out of my chest.

1. Ryan Chapelle (Day 3)- Now Chapelle was a jerk most of the time, but when Stephen Saunders said he wanted Chapelle dead or he would do something really bad, I had a hard time not choking up. Jack ended up shooting Chapelle in the head from point blank.

Idol Does MJ

First week of the finals featured music by the former king of pop and present king of freaky, Michael Jackson.

Vanessa Olivarez Division (Really Bad)

Anoop Desai- (Beat It) At least he finally picked a song that had lyrics and wasn't sung completely by the background vocalists. He didn't come anywhere close to doing this well. It was too soft, not nearly gritty enough for 'Beat It.' I would liked to have seen someone rock it out and do the Fall Out Boy version, but Anoop wasn't going to be that person. I believe he should be going home this week.

Kris Allen- (Remember the Time) The guitar seemed completely unnecessary right from the beginning. It was like he was waiting for the finals to use his guitar and forced it into a song that wasn't right for a guitar. He missed a couple notes and was yelling at times. The terrible judges said it was great to see him with a guitar but Simon agreed with the kid and said the guitar didn't fit the song. Exactly.

Jorge Nunez- (Never Can Say Goodbye) This Jackson Five song was obviously done at a really high tone by Michael as a kid. And Jorge not being able to go high was a downfall. He hit some strong notes at the end but the first half was way too boring for me. Also his accent made it sound weird to me.

Ricky Smith Division (Fine, but not going to gain votes)

Alexis Grace- (Dirty Diana) While not terrible (she actually can sing well), she is starting to feel a little pretentious to me. She just tried too hard and was oversinging a bit. It felt a lot like her semifinal performance that most people liked obviously, but I didn't.

Michael Sarver- (You Are Not Alone) MJ did this one as an adult, but did it completely in falsetto. I loved this song back in middle school so I really feel Sarver didn't do it justice. He showed he has strong vocals, it just didn't fit with this song. I might have liked the performance if I didn't know the song.

Lil Rounds- (The Way You Make Me Feel) Although the three stooges loved this performance, as they would have no matter what she did, it was pretty bland for me. It picked up towards the end with some changes into the false, but all in all nothing to email home about.

Scott MacIntyre- (Keep the Faith) I liked him a lot better than in the semi-final. Maybe the judges actually knew what they were talking about, because he actually did seem much more comfortable behind the piano. I didn't really know the song which can help you if you're not that great because no one can do it like Michael. The only thing is that his piano playing didn't really add anything to the performance.

Jasmine Murray- (I'll Be There) I feel the best of this group. She pulled out some runs that I hadn't heard in this song and showed some powerful vocals throughout. I only wish she had thrown in some ad libs like "look over shoulders honey."

Trenyce Division (Hangin' around near the top)

Megan Joy Corkrey- (Rockin' Robin) It might have been a little strange but I really enjoyed it. Unlike Jorge and Sarver, her lower voice fit this song. Maybe it's different when a chick sings in place of the high voiced Michael. Megan Joy has a very Sara Bareilles sound to her voice and it fit well to the 'Rockin Robin.' She goes in between her regular and falsetto at time very well. Although it's not really a powerful sound, it was better than Lil or Alexis trying to be powerful and failing.

Allison Iraheta- (Give In To Me) I thought I might have known the song, but it didn't sound like it because she was giving it such a different feel. She has such a rock star voice. With all of her raspyness I think it sounded great. The downfall for me is that she sounds the same throughout, no big runs or changes.

Matt Giraud- (Human Nature) This guy is the only one who tried to go at the falsetto and take it down. He went into it for about half the song and killed it. The first part of the song, in his lower register, were good and raspy. Unlike Scott, his piano skills added something to the performance. You can tell he really gets into it while tickling the ivories.

Ruben Studdard Division (Contenders)

Danny Gokey- (PYT) All in all a great performance. A very strong vocal performance, with quick changes from raspy lower register to falsetto. He seemed to really get the audience, and me, into the song. It was a fast song and that doesn't usually give the contestant a chance to show off his chops, but Gokey proved he's got what it takes to get to the finals.

Adam Lambert- (Black or White) Problem with Danny is that he's not Adam. Still the favorite to win this thing. In both performances he has gone all out, changed the song up, performed the heck out of it, and showed amazing vocal talents. His stage presence is unbelievable. Adam is extremely weird, but completely fantastic.

Survivor Tocantins- Week 4

Thoughts

So far this season is much less exciting as Randy, Sugar and Kenny of Gabon. Coach is the worst guy ever. Tyson is really the major bright spot. He again talked about his love for seeing people cry and throw tantrums if they get voted out. He thought voting Erinn out would be a good idea for the sole reason that she would get very upset about it.

The secretive four-way alliance looks like a really good idea. It seems similar to Ryan and Josh's alliance in Big Brother 9 that did wonders because nobody thought they liked each other. Brendan and Sierra aren't doing a good enough job of pretending that nothing is going on and from the previews for next week, it seems like something might leak out in a day or two. Oh well.

Judging Idol

Thoughts

Before I get to all of my complaining about this show, let me preface it with the fact that I enjoy shows that I get angry with. A prime example was how much I hated Mary from Las Vegas. Vegas was definitely one of my favorite character driven shows and hating everything that Mary did made it fun to scream and yell when she did something else that I couldn't stand. That's the way I've been feeling yet again with Idol this season.

Kara DioGuardi is one of the worst additions to a television program in history. I never thought that I wouldn't be able to stand someone more than Paula, but Kara makes Paula refreshing. Kara is the absolute WORST. She blabs and blabs like she thinks she knows what she's talking about. At least Paula knows she's an idiot. Kara is kind of closer to Randy in that sense, she takes the worst parts of Randy and Paula and has created one uber-terrible judge.

I definitely enjoyed the less airtime for auditions this year. I am not one of those people that enjoy watching millions of terrible auditions. It gets old real fast. I feel the change in format for the semi-finals is a good change of pace, it kind of dragged the past couple of years. As a bonus we don't end up with an equal number of guys and girls. Because if you know anything about me, you know that I think guys are better at most things, including Idol.

Quick Summaries

Group 1: Alexis Grace, Danny Gokey (right) and Michael Sarver made it through. Wow early terribleness from America. Sarver, really? Gokey was the best in the group but I agreed with Simon that it was nothing special. Alexis was barely the best girl, none of them were very good in this group.

Group 2: Adam Lambert, Kris Allen and Allison Iraheta got through from this group. I enjoyed all three of these. Lambert showed a lot of talent in his first performance, but was kinda of crazy at times.

Group 3: Lil Rounds, Scott MacIntyre and Jorge Nunez won this round. Very good group in which I disagreed wholeheartedly with the choices by America. God did the judges praise Lil Rounds (being in the last spot, the producers obviously want her to win). I wasn't impressed. She showed talent but there was nothing special. Blind Scott was not good and Jorge was good but uncomfortable to watch afterward with all his Spanish thinking. I guess in the end I would've gone with Rounds, Ju'not Joyner and Von Smith (but Von greatly disappointed in the wild-card so good job America).

Wildcard Round

Jessica Langseth: wow was this performance bad.

Megan Joy Corkrey (right): also bad but not quite on Jessica's level. Talked through the entire song. Obviously the judges praised her because they need to increase their number of females in the finals.

Matt Giraud: I liked this performance of Who's Loving You. The judges have said it a million times but this was a much better song choice for him and he definitely did enough to make the finals.

Von Smith: Like I said before, he blew it. On Tuesday he was great, switching back and forth from his falsetto do his normal voice but tonight he almost tried to do the whole thing in a high pitch and it didn't work for me or anyone.

Jasmine Murray: She comes out with a powerful Christina Agulaira song and did very well. Randy and Kara are completely idiotic again. Randy says song was too big for her. No, her thing is big songs, she has a big voice just not great control. That's why the Sara Bareilles song last time didn't work. Kara goes "I didn't know you had this big voice." How dumb are you Kara? You all criticized her in week 1 for picking a song that didn't show off her big voice. That's all you knew about her. Wow.

Ricky Braddy: A decent job, but he's just too forgettable.

Tatiana Del Toro: She sings the exact same song she did in group 1. Are you joking? Repeating songs is one thing but in back to back weeks during your first two times in front of America? Soo dumb and the judges criticized her for it. It was a decent performance though.

Anoop Desai: This guy is just being so dumb. He has a big fan base, a big voice and a big personality and he is killing himself with these song choices. He has done two songs in the first two performances that feature a chorus sung completely by backup singers. He adlibs throughout the performance and doesn't get a chance to actually sing. It kills me because he could be real good, I feel.

So they end up taking four from the wildcard instead of three. Matt Giraud, Jasmine Murray, Megan Joy Corkrey and Anoop Desai. I agree with everything except there was no need for Corkrey.

Still LOST

Straight up, Lost is still the best show on television. Last night's ep forced me to post about it. This could have been my favorite hour of television this year. Not only did we get to see Herc (FNL) and Michelle Dessler (24) in the ep, but it centered around one of my favorite tv characters of all time, James 'Sawyer' 'LaFleur' Ford. It was real sweet watching Sawyer take control immediately following the action Locke took to stop the time traveling. But then as they skip forward three years, you get to see how he is basically running the Dharma Initiative, and he is killing it.

Now to the juicy part...Sawyer and Juliet. I've spent a lot of time watching Lost and the fight between Jack and Sawyer over Kate was always a hot topic. Not liking Jack and loving Sawyer, I've always wanted Sawyer to win Kate. Here's the thing, I've always dislike Kate as well, so why would I want Sawyer to be stuck with her. I definitely like Juliet (and not just because she's Santa's wife). So it only makes sense to love it that Sawyer and Juliet got together over the three year span. Too bad it seems like things will get ruined now that everyone is back on the island.

The main thing that I love about Lost is how they continue to answer questions and get you to ask more every episode. This is what Heroes fails to do on a regular basis. You can't keep stringing a viewer on and not give them any candy along the way.

My only quarrel with Lost is that during the first couple of seasons the writers were making the stuff up as they went along. I think it might be weird to go back and re-watch because I think some of the details wouldn't make sense. Once Lindelof and Cuse set an end date and figured out exactly where they were going with the whole thing, the show got better for me.

Ty B-O-M-B

I'll preface this with the fact that this is not an actual list, but definitely a funny one. Anyone who knows Ty well, knows that he loves Brendan Fraser. When we would play B-O-M-B in college, Ty would use Brendan Fraser any chance he could get. For those of you unfamiliar to the game of B-O-M-B, it was brought to VC through the Juice Box (someone correct me if I am wrong). It is a game played with two-100 players, but best to start with 7-10 players. The player to start names a movie, the next player names an actor from that movie, and the next names a different movie that actor is in. For example, Lar would always start with Ocean's Eleven, I would say Scott Caan, Mags would say Varsity Blues, Skip would then say Jon Voight. Then it would get to Stumpy, who would have no idea and he could then take a guess or challenge Skip to name another Jon Voight movie. If Skip names one, Stumpy gets a letter, if he doesn't Skip gets the letter. Once you get B-O-M-B you're out and play continues with the next player. Obviously no repeat movies or actors are allowed in one round of play. A round being the time it takes for someone to get a letter.

The interesting thing about Ty playing this game would be that if he didn't know an actor from a movie, he would always say Brenden Fraser. I'd say Bottle Rocket, Ty would have no idea and he'd say Brendan Fraser. When Ty would start a game or a round it was most certainly the Mummy or The Mummy Returns. To this day I still don't know if he was faking a little with his lack of knowledge for the comedic value of guessing Brendan Fraser or School Ties every time a difficult one came around.

Thoughts

Ok it is now official. I did the absolute worst job drafting my survivor team. My second player, Jerry, was voted off this week and it looks as though Erinn is next if Jalopao wins immunity next week. So Mags, Lar, Jaydon if any of you want the great Joe who killed it in this week's challenges I'm for a trade for two weaker players.

Now about the game play of this week. If I were on Timbura I would get this 'Coach' character out immediately. He is my least favorite person in all of the Survivor and Big Brother that I have watched. He is completely annoying and also trying to control what the group is doing. And he isn't even good at competitions! Get rid of this clown. Tyson on the other hand is awesome. "I love to see people cry when they're eliminated," he says.

The Lochness Quest

So late last year as I was gearing up for graduation, Lochness was deciding to end his collegiate basketball career early. A junior this year he made the choice to quit Brewers basketball so that he could have the time to enjoy other endeavors. Now you and I both know that this meant that he needed more time to finish off the IMDB Top 250. Eight of his top ten characters come from top 250 movies. Reservoir Dogs

As some know I am currently attempting to broaden my movie watching ability with recent viewings of 'On the Waterfront', 'The Sting' and 'Dr. Strangelove'. The first two I thoroughly enjoyed and Strangelove didn't really do it for me. With influence from The Boss and Jay-sone I was turned on to the Tarantino films (of which I had seen none). Last night I threw in 'Reservoir Dogs' and came out of the experience very happy. Not to say that I get happy when everyone in a movie dies, but it was a great flick.

Thoughts

The beginning was fantastic. With a cold open that leads into what I like to call a "slow-mo walking with music doing intros" scene, it got me excited for the rest of the film. The cold open was great because I immediately connected with Buscemi's character, Mr. Pink. He didn't leave a tip for the waitress because he doesn't believe in it. He had my thoughts of the past ten years exactly. Why do waitresses deserve tips for doing their job? This leads into my over the top theory that so many thank yous are unnecessary. Why thank the bus driver when getting off? He's driving you because he gets paid to do it. Are you thanking him for not getting into an accident or turning around and shooting you in the head? Also the thank you for someone who opens the door as the leave somewhere and you're entering, unnecessary. They're leaving anyway, they are not opening the door solely so that you don't have to. Ridiculous.

Anyway where was I, oh yes, the movie. Other unbelievable moment was when the rest of the crew leaves and Mr. Blonde, played by Michael Madsen, is left with the hostage of a cop. When he puts on 'Stuck in the Middle' by Steelers Wheel and starts dancing it really got me going. I fell in love with The Matador all over again. And then there is the ending when everyone shoots each other. With some discussion with Jay-sone it seems that Mr. White got off two shots, killing Joe and Eddie, before he hits the ground. Now according to Chris Penn something went wrong with the stunt and he began to fall to the ground before White got his second shot off but in the fast action of it, I couldn't tell any of that. I loved the fact that Mr. Pink snuck out and got away scott free.

For a dude that prides himself in loving old movies, and by old movies I mean anything before 1980, Timothy H. Time has six new movie characters to four old ones. This is such a slap in the face to the 300 dvds he has from the 50s and 60s. While we're on the subject of list making, during the summers I worked at the fabulous DeLorme Map Company, T-time and I would make lists of everything and anything and then vote on them. One of our original goals was to end up with a master list of the greatest people in the world (actors, athletes, musicians, actual people we know, etc.) Due to the fact that I am now residing in CT this never happened, and aren't we all sad because of it.

Thoughts

Wow did my squad take a turn for the worst last night. I don't care if I lost a player, I am glad Candace got booted...she was the worst. Scratch that, Sandy is the worst but Candace was also terrible. Kate Hudson (Sierra) survived another week even though her tribe seemed to think she was doing terrible in the challenge. I disagree and thought she was doing as well as any other chick, except for Eddie George's beast of a fullback of a wife, Taj. She was plowing through dudes to score. Also I thought I was gonna hate Tyson but I'm definitely starting to like him. The action between him and Jerry at the end was great. They were just chillin' out talking about how crazy everyone was being and I enjoyed. In the results below there should be nothing strange except for the ten point bonus for JT because of the leadership role he has taken on. Anyone has a quarrel with that let me know.

Super Bowling

I hate to take time away from the movie characters list but there is one of the least important days of football coming up tomorrow. What is so great about a day of football with only ONE game on. You wanna know the best day of football? This year it was Sunday September 21st. During week 3 there were 15 National Football League games on Sunday. Yes Week 17 had all 16 but so many of them meant nothing.

Let's take a quick look at some of the highlights from fabulous Week 3. The Cards and Steelers both lost. Arizona lost to the Redskins 24-17 with The Edge posting 93 yards on 18 carries. Pittsburgh fell to the Eagles 15-6 with Big Ben putting up 131 yards, no tds, a ceptor and got injured. Teams of the blog, Colts and Raids, both lost in nail biters, but the Dolphins put the smack down on that team that plays in Massachusetts 38-13, with Ronnie Brown going for 800 yards and 12 touchdowns.

As for tomorrow, sure about half of the people out there are saying the 7 point favorite Steelers are going to win, but the other half are saying the Cards will win. It is my thought that the public is finally ready to jump on this Cardinal bandwagon and that mean the wheels are ready to come off. 53% on ESPN Sportsnation are picking the Cardinals to win outright. If that doesn't spell a Steelers blow out, I don't know what does. Doesn't it make sense that the Cards were running on a lot of energy the past three weeks and this two week break has slowed them down? Lost a little bit of their rhythm? The Steelers on the other hand don't play on rhythm. They're frantic and are just flat out good.

That's why my pick for the Super Bowl is Steelers 30, Cardinals 14.
Be sure to listen to me when I give out football advice because I play football in my front yard with my brothers at least three times a year.

Inspired by JJ's post, I have decided to post my top 100 movie characters list. A few rules need to be mentioned first. There are no animated or cgi characters allowed and although no female characters would make this list, they will be getting their own at some point. The biggest rule I gave myself was only one character from an actor. This was key because if I had not put this rule in play, there would be at least five for Owen Wilson, Will Ferrell and Bill Murray. A detriment I have found from this strategy is that there are unbelievable characters that get shut out. Take for example Dignan from Bottle Rocket, even though he would probably be in my top ten overall, he doesn't get to be on the list because he is my second favorite Owen Wilson character. Anthony from Bottle Rocket is not as great as Dignan but makes the list because he is my favorite Luke Wilson character. Well as they say, them is the berries.

Unlike Kellen Winslow, The Horse is getting in for his elite tight end status for many, many years. From '92 to '03 Shannon was a top five TE eleven out of 12 seasons, with the one mishap coming in '99 due to injury. Sure he talked a lot of trash, but he backed it up year in and year out. He led TEs in fantasy points four times and was sixth overall in 1993 when he had 995 yards and nine touchdowns. In '96 he eclipsed 1,000 yards for the second time and caught 10 of John Elway's 26 touchdown passes to have his best season. This induction shows that I am not biased because I didn't like Shannon Sharpe when he was a player, and I really can't stand him as a football analyst on Sundays. He doesn't detract enough from the CBS crew to bring them below the FOX squad but he's still bad. If I combined all the channels for a five man all star team it would look like this...Rich Eisen (NFL Network), Michael Strahan (Fox), Boomer Esiason (CBS), Deion Sanders (NFL Network) and Cris Carter (ESPN).

TIGHT ENDS

Tight ends might have been the most difficult position of them all. Unlike wide receivers, there were many TEs that were consistently good. This is probably because there only a couple great pass catching tight ends in the league at a time, if you go back some years there weren't more than one or two. Deciding between some of the tight ends that I never heard of was a tough task. Todd Christensen led TEs in fantasy points four years in a row, but he's not gonna make it as a first ballot because his numbers don't stand up against the rest of the league.

Kellen Winslow

The current Kellen Winslow's father played for the Chargers, catching passes from the great Dan Fouts. Unlike Christensen's numbers, Kellen's give him the nod because he dismantled other TEs of his time. When he led tight ends in fantasy points from 1980-82 he was also 4th, 11th and 8th overall when being compared to QBs, RBs and WRs. Winslow was also 13th in the league in '83 when he ranked second amongst tight ends. Christensen only had two top 20 league performances. If it weren't for Kellen Winslow, Tony Gonzalez might not be what he is today. And if it weren't for Kellen Winslow, Kellen Winslow Jr. wouldn't be at all.

Cris Carter

What gives CC the edge and gets him in the Hall as the last wide receiver is his consistent play as a top ten guy. After his troubles in Philly with drug and alcohol abuse he was cut by Rex Ryan's dad, even though according to the coach "all he does is catch touchdowns." The Vikings took a chance on him and after a bit of a transition period, Carter proved himself as a top flight receiver in '93 with Denny Green as a new coach and veteran QB Jim McMahon under center. What makes Cris's career in Minnesota so impressive is that he dealt with a ridiculous QB carousel and still managed to be the second best WR of the 90s behind Jerry Rice. Here are Carter's QBs from 1990 to 2000 in Minny...Rich Gannon, Sean Salisbury, Jim McMahon, Brad Johnson, Randall Cunningham, Jeff George and Daunte Culpepper. What would Cris have done if he were in Indy with Peyton for 10 years, or even in Philly Donovan for 10 years. He could have been the second best receiver hands down with a steady arm under center. Given all that, he still put up the numbers and performed as a top 10 WR from '93 to '00.
